Vienna  - The car industry in Central and Eastern Europe is expected to recover soon from the current crisis and to suffer less than producers in Western Europe, according to a study released in Vienna on Monday.

While industry and logistics experts at the Fraunhofer Austria Research institute said in their study that production would stagnate in Western Europe and the United States until 2012, the CEE region would see growth rates of 30 per cent.

Dublin- There has been a swing towards a "Yes" vote to the European Union's Lisbon Treaty in Ireland with 51 per cent now in favour, according to a poll conducted by the Irish Times newspaper, published Monday.

The poll shows those in favour increased by eight points since November 2008 when the last Irish Times last poll was published. Just
33 per cent now say they would vote "No," a drop of six points since November's poll.

Munich, Feb 13 : The latest image by the European Southern Observatory (ESO) has detected strong winds and powerful radiation coming from an armada of massive stars in the Carina Nebula.

The large and beautiful image displays the full variety of this impressive skyscape, spattered with clusters of young stars, large nebulae of dust and gas, dust pillars, globules, and adorned by one of the Universe's most impressive binary stars.

It was produced by combining exposures through six different filters from the Wide Field Imager (WFI), attached to the 2.2 m ESO/MPG telescope at ESO''s La Silla Observatory, in Chile.

Amsterdam, Feb 11: ESA's (European Space Agency's) Science Programme Committee has extended the operations of its Mars Express, Venus Express and Cluster missions until 31 December 2009.

The decision to extend the three successful missions was taken on February 4 this year.

Mars Express, launched in June 2003, has been orbiting the Red Planet since the end of 2003, and has produced a treasure of discoveries.

The first European mission to Mars, it has taken breathtaking, high-resolution images of the surface in 3D and in colour.

New Delhi, Feb 9 : India through an Access Agreement with the European Patent Office, has established a mechanism to protect India''s traditional medicinal knowledge from bio-piracy.

The maiden Indian effort in creating ''Traditional Knowledge Digital Library (TKDL) database would now be available to the Patent Examiners at European Patent Office (EPO having 34 member states) for establishing prior art, in case of patent applications based on Indian systems of medicine.

The accessibility of data base has come into operation from February 2.
