Beijing - The United Nations on Sunday urged the Chinese government to spend more on public services to offset the effects of growing wealth gaps.

"Comprehensive institutional and policy reforms are essential for China to provide its people with access to improved health services, education, social security and public employment services," the UN Development Programme (UNDP) said a the launch of its latest China Human Development Report.

Beijing  - Twenty people are feared dead after a cave-in at a tunnel under construction for a subway line in the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou, state media said on Sunday.

Rescuers had recovered three bodies by Sunday morning and held little hope of finding 17 missing construction workers alive, the official Xinhua news agency said.

"There is a slim chance for the survival of trapped workers, because of heavy flooding in the crater," the agency quoted Wang Guangrong, a spokesman for the rescue services, as saying.

New Delhi  - Near 50 years after their spiritual leader the Dalai Lama fled Chinese occupation to set up base in India, leaders of the Tibetan exiled community are meeting in the northern hill town of Dharamsala on Monday to discuss their future.

A long-simmering debate on the best approach - greater autonomy within China or a call for independence - is expected to be the focus of discussions among the 500-plus delegates attending the meeting.

After negotiating with the Chinese government for a "meaningful autonomy" within China for three decades, the Dalai Lama now says he is increasingly losing faith in the Chinese leadership.

Beijing- A cave-in trapped at least 50 people on Saturday afternoon in a tunnel under construction for a subway line in the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou, state media said.

A road caved in above the tunnel, trapping an unknown number of construction workers and causing several vehicles to fall into the hole, the official Xinhua news agency said.

About 2,000 rescue workers rushed to the site and were "struggling to pump water out of the tunnel", the agency quoted rescue officials as saying.

Shanghai - Novak Djokovic survived 55 unforced errors and missed 11 break points but scratched out a 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 win over Gilles Simon on Saturday to move into the final of the Masters Cup.

Djokovic took treatment in the third set for a left calf muscle pull as he denied the dream of year-end debutant Simon, who claimed the last of the spots in the eight-man field when Rafael Nadal withdrew.

"It's the Masters Cup, best eight players in the world this year are here, it's a huge success for me to reach the final," said the Serb.

"My injury is nothing too serious. It was just cramping because of a lot of running and a lot of rallies we had. So I just had to treat it a little bit in order to end up the match."
