Madhupur, a small village in Bihar has been striving hard to preserve the peacock or the peafowl in its bionetwork by converting their village into a forest area. It boasts of being home to over 200 peacocks.

One dead, 17 missing in Bihar boat mishap

Bihar FloodPatna, Sep 11 : One person was drowned and 17 others, mostly women and children, on board a boat were missing after it capsized in Harohar river near Bavgha village of Bihar''s Sheikhpura district on Thursday.

District Magistrate Anjani Kumar Verma camping at the incident site said that local divers fished out a body and efforts were on to trace 17 others who had gone missing after the boat got caught in a whirpool and capsized.

The body recovered by the divers was yet to be identified, he said.

Bihar appoints ex-Patna HC chief justice for Kosi probe

BiharPatna, Sept 11 : The Bihar Government has appointed Rajesh Balia, a former Chief Justice of Patna High Court, to conduct a judicial probe into the breach in the Kosi embankment that triggered the worst floods of Bihar in 50 years.

On Wednesday night a notification was issued for the one-man inquiry commission according to reports.

The state government had on Tuesday night ordered a judicial probe to look into the circumstances that led to the breach in the Kosi embankment, which was approved by the state cabinet

Purnia/Patna, Sept 10 :Rahul Gandhi visits flood-hit Bihar Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has visited the flood-ravaged Purnia District of Bihar.

The Amethi MP went around Purnia, one of the worst hit districts, to see firsthand the fury of floods and the consequent despair of the people who surrounded him all the way.

Meanwhile, self-styled yoga guru Baba Ramdev has demanded a long-term solution to tackle the recurring floods.

Baba Ramdev sends relief material to flood victims of Bihar

Bihar FloodPatna, Sep 9 : In a bid to help the flood victims in Bihar, Baba Ramdev, the self made Yoga Guru, flagged off 25 trucks loaded with relief material here today.

Food, clothes and shelter materials carried by the trucks would be distributed to the affected people by his workers.

He informed that his yoga school is running 20 such camps in the flood-affected areas and has provided food for almost 40,000 people.

Patna, Sept 9 : Nitish Kumar asks flood victims to stay in safer places for some more timeBihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has asked the flood victims of the state to stay outside for some more time till the rains subside.

Kumar conducted a survey of flood-hit Purnia, Araria and visited the relief camp at Forbesganj on Monday.

Kumar told reporters at Patna Airport that people should wait for some more days before going back to their homes.
