London - A British soldier was killed by a bomb in Afghanistan, bringing to 125 the number of British forces killed there since operations began in 2001, the Defence Ministry said Sunday.

The 28th IITF -2008'', one of Asia''s largest trade expositions organized by India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO) kick started on Friday.

At least 30 leading businessmen are participating in the fair with an aim to explore the market in India.

One Taliban leader killed, another arrested in Afghanistan

Kabul, AfghanistanKabul - US-led coalition forces reported Saturday the arrest of one Taliban leader and the death of another in a series of recent offensives.

Security officials in southern Afghanistan said that a key local Taliban commander was killed Saturday during a joint operation by US and Afghan forces in Zabul province.

Obaid Agha was killed in the attack in Bakarzi, near Qalat City, according to Ghulam Jilani, provincial security chief. Jilani added that several other Taliban militants were injured in the operation.

German troops in Afghanistan consuming a million litres of beer a year

The troops, according to a German Defence Ministry report, also received about 70,000 litres of wine and sekt, a German sparkling wine.

The admission has shocked a country that has never had much time for the Afghan mission, reports The Guardian.

10 militants killed in eastern Afghanistan, US-led coalition says Kabul  - The US-led coalition said Saturday that its forces killed 10 militants, including foreign fighters, during an operation against an al-Qaeda-linked militant network in east-central Afghanistan.

The militants of the Haqqani network who were targeted Thursday in the Zadran district of Paktia province planted roadside bombs and coordinated suicide bombings and other attacks on coalition and Afghan forces in the area, the coalition said.

NATO parliamentarians call for new strategy in Afghanistan

Afghanistan & NATOValencia, Spain - Jose Lello, president of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) parliamentary assembly, on Friday urged the West to adopt a new strategy in Afghanistan.

Lello met the press at the start of the 54th annual meeting of the assembly, which was bringing together more than 300 delegates from 50 countries in Valencia, eastern Spain.
