RBS will adapt to changes if Scotland becomes independent
Ross McEwan, the chief executive of Royal Bank of Scotland has said that the financial giant will be able to adapt itself to the changes if votes chose to make Scotland an independent nation during this year's referendum.
McEwan said, "It's really important that the Scottish people get the opportunity to vote, and then if I need to adapt my business to serve England, Scotland, Wales and both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, then I will."
He said that the bank has maintained a presence in Scotland for nearly 300 years. The bank distanced itself from the remarks by U. K. business secretary, Vince Cable, that the bank would relocate its headquarters if Scotland becomes an independent country. McEwan said that he has not discussed the matter with Cable. Mr Cable had speculated that RBS would eventually become a London bank if Scotland choses to be independent.
He wrote on a website of a media publication in the UK. Barclays chief executive Antony Jenkins had also said that the bank will be able to operate in either case relating to the Scottish independence.
