Raja keeps Communications and IT Ministry

Raja keeps Communications and IT MinistryDr. Manmohan Singh finally revealed the portfolios of his cabinet ministers on Thursday. A Raja has retained the prestigious Communications and IT Ministry. Raja, who held the IT & Communications Ministry for two years in the last UPA government, is expected to take charge next week.

Sounding confident and elated about his portfolio, Raja stated that the auctioning of 3G spectrum services and introduction of IT to make the functioning paperless at the lowest level in the government are on the top of his priority list. Raja said, "Auctioning of 3G spectrum is on top of my priority list."

Raja, who has been picked from DMK, also said that the country will see further tariff reduction on local calls, which could be priced as low as 10 paise per minute, while the nationwide STD calls could be priced at 25 paise.

Raja’s last tenure was little spoiled by controversy over the 2G spectrum allocation. This is Raja’s fourth term in Lok Sabha. He was the Environment Minister in the NDA government, in which the responsibility of IT and Telecommunication fell on him accidentally, after Dayanidhi Maran was forced by the DMK to resign.
