Rahul Gandhi extends financial aid to kin of hailstorm victims

RAhul GandhiKochit (Uttar Pradesh), June 2: Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi accompanied by his sister Priyanka Vadra and brother-in-law Robert Vadra, today met family members of victims who had lost their lives in a hailstorm on May 16.

Gandhi, who was on his way to attend the Rajiv Gandhi cricket tournament, being held in his parliamentary constituency of Amethi, listened to the problems of the injured and also offered financial help to them.

"Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi visited the place today. Rahul Gandhi had come to meet the family of the victims and extended financial and medical aid," said Ram Shankar, a local.

Eighty-nine people were killed in the high-velocity thunderstorm that ripped across Uttar Pradesh on May 16.

Winds blew at 80 km an hour, uprooting trees and triggering wall collapses besides igniting fires. The thunderstorm also caused a blackout in several parts of the State. Trains services were also affected. (ANI)
