Rafah border crossing opened by EgyptAllowing supplies into Gaza and residents of the Palestinian enclave to get medical treatment, Egypt opened the Rafah border crossing on Tuesday.

Ynetnews. com has reported that President Hosni Mubarak did not give a time for the end of the current opening, which comes a day after a violent confrontation between a convoy of peace activists and Israeli commandos. At least nine passengers were killed Monday when they resisted the commandos on one of the boats.

It has also been reported that usually, Egypt opens the crossing for a few days each month. Egyptian officials told Ynetnews people in urgent need of medical care can always enter Egypt.

International pressure has been suggested by Palestinian officials following Monday's incident might convince Israel to set easier conditions for the blockade of Gaza, which has been in place since Hamas won parliamentary elections three years ago. (With Inputs from Agencies)
