According to reports, a stepped stone pyramid nearly 2 meters (6 feet) has been uncovered in the City of David, which is the site of ancient Jerusalem. Archaeologists are making assumptions regarding its use. Archaeological excavation in the Jerusalem Walls National Park has discovered the structure.

According to a release from the Israel Antiquities Authority, the excavation has been done in an association between the City of David Foundation and the Israel Nature and Parks Authority.

The Israel Antiquities Authority made an announcement regarding the discovery in a press release. The excavation, led by Nahshon Szanton and Dr. Joe Uziel, was carried out close to the Second Temple and the Pool of Shiloam that are mentioned in the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. Dozens of partial and intact stone pottery in addition to some glassware have been found at the foot of the pyramid.

According to Szanton and Uziel, "The structure exposed is unique. To date such a structure has yet to be found along the street in the numerous excavations that have taken place in Jerusalem and to the best of our knowledge outside of it. For this reason, its exact use remains enigmatic".

As per the archaeologists, two British archaeologists uncovered a part of the step pyramid nearly a century ago. They thought that it was a set of steps towards a house, the archaeologists added.

According to the announcement made by Israel's Antiquities Authority, scholars are aware from rabbinic sources that stones in public places were utilized for different purposes, for instance auctioning slaves.
