Protest against grenade attack on PWD engineer in Imphal
Imphal, Feb. 4: People in Imphal are anguished over the militants' increasing activities that include extortion, kidnappings, threat and killings in the State, which generate uncertainty in the lives of the people.
Recently, unidentified gunmen attacked the residence of PWD Imphal West Division Executive Engineer Irengbam Loken.
Womenfolk were recently out in Uripok Gopalji Leirak in Imphal to stage a protest denouncing the grenade attack. They were pointing out that violent activities have disrupted normal life and created sense of fear in the State.
"What we used to only hear about is now taking place closer to our homes. We are afraid to go out and move about freely for our daily activities like marketing and getting medicines. We are growing older and we fear for our lives and what may happen to us. We are so anxious," said L. Mere Devi, a local resident.
"This cannot be taken as a good thing. What has happened has hampered our work. It''s a stumbling block. We are here to protest and express our unhappiness," said W. Memchoubi Devi, another resident.
Unidentified persons had hurled a grenade at the residence of the PWD engineer and the The guard on duty sustained injuries.
Militant activities have affected all sections of the Manipuri society. Be it businessmen, doctors, teachers, students or farmers, no one has been spared. (ANI)
