Privateer E-161 Electric Enduro MTB promises effortless, powerful rides

Privateer, a UK-based manufacturer of premium mountain bicycles (MTBs), has announced the launch of its latest product – 161 Electric Enduro MTB. For building the new e-bike, Privateer joined forces with Shimano – a Japan-based, multinational producer of cycling components. The race-ready enduro mountain e-bike features premium technology. For propelling the electric two-wheeler, the manufacturer has equipped it with the Shimano EP801 electric motor that is capable of churning out 500 watts and producing an impressive 85 Newton-meters (nm) of torque. When it comes to the battery, the new e-bike boasts a 630-watt-hour (Wh) power pack, which also comes from Shimano.

The full-suspension frame of the e-bike has been made of 6061-T6 aluminum, which makes its strong enough to tackle any sort of terrain effortlessly. To ensure enhanced performance, the bike has a 170 mm Fox-branded 38 Performance Elite E-Bike+ fork and Fox-branded Float X2 Performance rear shock that provides a large 161 mm of rear wheel travel. When it comes to wheels, it features a 29-inch wheel and a 27.5-inch wheel with HUNT E All-Mountain rims in the front and rear, respectively. Moreover, the manufacturer has equipped it with a dependable & enduring Shimano SLX 12-speed transmission.

The British bicycle brand entered the arena of rapidly growing e-MTB segment with the launch of the widely-acclaimed E-161. The brand's official website states that the E-161 was designed & developed at the request of world-renowned EWS racer Matt Stuttard, who was looking for an efficient enduro bike for training, but the bike must also provide added electric boost to help him get back to the trail without any difficulty.

Privateer’s official website states, “The Privateer E161 E-MTB has been built to serve as the ultimate training tool for EDR (Enduro World Cup) riders. At Privateer, we recognised the need for riders to spend more time on their bikes, mainly focusing on increasing the time spent descending. The E161 was specifically designed to address this demand.”

Available in a single configuration, the Privateer E-161 Electric Enduro MTB comes with a price is 7,499 Euros (approx. US$8,385). This price tag may be looking hefty but it becomes pleasant to eyes when we compared it to analogous e-bikes from other manufacturers that often exceed the marl of US$10,000. The manufacturer has already started accepting orders for the new e-bike, while deliveries to customers are expected to commence in the first week of August 2023.
