Preimplantation Factor Protein’ Essential For Successful Pregnancy: Study
Scientists have isolated and detailed the task of a unique protein named as Preimplantation Factor (PF) created by healthy embryos that guarantees a successful pregnancy.
The study showed that Preimplantation Factor transforms maternal immunity, supports attachment of the early embryo, and manipulates remodeling of intrauterine cells.
Lead researcher Michael J. Paidas, associate professor and co-director of the Yale University Women and Children's Centre for Blood Disorders, said, "Preimplantation Factor appears to be essential for pregnancy to succeed."
"For several decades, investigators have tried to isolate a compound that was absolutely required for pregnancy. We believe that Preimplantation Factor is in fact that compound," Paidas said.
Co-author Eytan R. Barnea, clinical associate professor in obstetrics, gynaecology & reproduction, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School discovered the Preimplantation Factor.
In due course, Barnea synthesized PF with the intention that the replicated form is just like the native compound.
Researches are currently happening to set up PF as a diagnostic test for pregnancy viability, not only in humans but in animals as well, since it appears to be universally present in mammals. (With Inputs from Agencies)
