Pranab Mukherjee's security tightened further

Pranab MukherjeeNew Delhi, May 14 : External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee’s security was tightened today after Central security agencies learnt that militant groups were planning to carry out an attempt on his life.

Intelligence sources said that certain Pakistan and Bangladesh based militant outfits like Lashkar-e-Toiba and the Jaish-e- Mohammad had carried out a suicide attack reccee on Mukherjee, who already is under high Z-Plus category security cover.

The Home Ministry has ordered Delhi and West Bengal police forces to ensure fool-proof security for Mukherjee, who was the country’s defence minister earlier.

Besides holding the key portfolio of External Affairs, Mukherjee also heads the UPA-Left committee on the Indo-US civil nuclear deal and various Group of Ministers (GoM) committees.

A circular has been issued to West Bengal Police, as the minister frequently visits his home state. (ANI)
