Power companies offering flexible plans
Power companies are increasingly offering more flexible and innovative plans allowing customers to personalise their usage.
The growing use of digital meters has allowed the companies and the customers to monitor usage in real time. The company has now offering new plans such as free nights, free weekends and prepaid plans for power usage to their customers in the country.
Digital meters have also allowed power companies to reduce their costs by encouraging customers to use power in off peak hours when it is cheaper. Experts have said that the new plans are good for the market but there are some risks involved like low entry level prices that my rise quickly, high cost of leaving a plan and fixed-rate plans that may become very expensive if prices fall.
Electricity usage plans have been available for a long time but digital metes have made their adoption easier for the customers. The new plans have different motives by power companies as traditional power firms are using them to encourage customers to increase off peak usage to reduce pressure on the grid while other firms are trying to lure new customers through the plans.
