The Avon and Somerset Police handcuffed and detained twenty-six drivers in the first week of the Christmas drink-drive campaign this year.

Ever since the beginning of the seasonal drive on 1st December, the officers have held back a total of 5,351 vehicles. Out of these 5,351, 364 motorists were breathalysed and 26 got arrested.

The police were apparently disappointed that almost one third of the caught drivers were below the age of 25 years, which indicates that the young people are still not listening to the multiple advice and warnings regarding drinking and driving.

Chief Inspector Polly King said that they were seriously hoping that this kind of actions would not continue and he further urged everyone to control their temptation to drink drive.

Age UK Somerset, formally known as the Age Concern Somerset, will be organising and holding their yearly Christmas Carol Service at Wells Cathedral on 8th December this year at 11.00am.

The Revd Canon Andrew Featherstone will head the service, the Chancellor of Wells, and guest the Chapel Choir of Taunton School and the Burtle Silver Band will be giving guest performances, while the Age UK volunteers and staff will read out from the readings.
