PM cancels Malda visit
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Malda on Sunday was cancelled due to bad weather at Purnea and he has returned to Delhi from Kolkata.
He left the NSC Bose International Airport in Kolkata at 9.30 am.
West Bengal Chief Secretary Amit Kiran Deb told that, the Prime Minister was to fly to Purnea from Kolkata and reach Malda from there in a helicopter. "As the weather is bad in Purnea he has left for Delhi."
The district Congress leaders of Malda had requested the PM to contest the Parliamentary elections from the North Malda constituency created after delimitation
The Prime Minister was scheduled to visit the house of late Congress stalwart A B A Ghani Khan Chowdhury at Malda and lay a wreath at his tomb. He had arrived in Kolkata yesterday and attended the convocation ceremony of Visvabharati University, of which he is the Acharya (chancellor).
