Piaggio denies reports on Scooters IndiaOne of the leading player in the Indian light commercial vehicle segment has recently said that the company has so far not initiated any talks with the ministry and has neither files an expression of interest for Scooters India.

While it was reported a couple of days back that Piaggio is also in the race for Scooters India along with players like Mahindra & Mahindra, Atul Auto and Tata Motors, but the company has denied any such activity so far.

In fact, Tata Motors on the other end echoed similar views that the company has so far not been in touch with the ministry for buying the ailing PSU. It is to be mentioned here that government is planning to sell a majority stake in Scooters India that has been known for a very long time for its Vijai and Lambretta brand in the Indian market.

However, it may be noted here that the company discontinued the production of two-wheelers in the year 1997 and currently focuses only on three-wheelers. It is believed that the stake sales will be a big for the loss-making company as a whole.
