Perseid meteor shower will set a spectacular light shown in the night sky starting on Tuesday. As per experts, some lucky sky watchers in Metro Vancouver would be able to see hundreds of shooting stars.

It has been said that the Kopernik Observatory will be open on clear nights starting at 9 p. m. this Tuesday through Thursday for viewing of the Perseid meteor shower.

Derek Kief, astronomer at the HR MacMillan Centre, said, "It is annual, but it should be really cool this year because there will be a new moon (and maximum darkness) on the 14th (of August). Last year, there was a full moon and it was too bright. You'll see a lot more this year".

The meteor shower will reach to its peak through Wednesday and Thursday nights next week. Kief stated the meteors during the show will be so bright that they will be easily visible with the naked eye. Stargazers can also watch them using telescope because they are too fast, he added.

For those who wanted to enjoy every second of the show Kief advised that they should find a place away from city lights and pollution so that they could catch the best view possible.

Meteor showers are visible as the Earth moves through a trail of ice and rock particles left behind by a comet or asteroid.

As per experts, the Perseid meteor shower is one of the most anticipated celestial events of the year due to its sheer number of meteors that can be seen while it is on its peak. It comes from the tail of the comet named Swift-Turtle, which last came near Earth in 1992.

The meteor shower is usually seen across the Northern Hemisphere until the end of the summer. This year it continues until around August 24.
