Everyone loves the inviting scent of candles wafting through their homes. Candles are available in different scents — from light floral to fruity fusions and imitations of well-baked goods. These scents have been known to evoke certain responses in people, affect moods and help with stress, anxiety and depression. With so many enticing scents available, it is easy to find one with qualities that will work for every mood.

But an easier way to choose your scent is to go by your star sign. Scents work differently on each star sign as the aromatic oils that are blended into the candle correspond to your star sign and make you react accordingly. “Aromatherapy can be used to create a balance in the body. These are prescribed depending on your birthdays and the element that signifies your zodiac sign,” says Ashley KS, an aromatherapist and Tarot card reader. “Star signs belong to elements like fire, water, air and earth. Scents that make you calm may not necessarily have the same effect on another person,” she adds.

Candles are used by some to improve different areas of their lives by following Feng Shui. While decorating a place, the colour of the candles represents the elements and the effect it may bring into your life. Sangeetha Raj, a Feng Shui consultant, says, “Keeping orange, pink or red candles in the South-West side of the house can improve personal relationships. Green is used to improve a financial situation.”

Candles can also be used for the sole purpose of filling your home with the delicious scent to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. They are known for their ability to enhance moods and to enhance positive thinking and concentration. Some scents are also known for their aphrodisiac properties. Basil, neroli, jasmine and Ylang Ylang are known for their intoxicating, erotic scents.
