 India welcomes new US strategy for Afghanistan and PakistanNew Delhi, Mar. 30 : Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon on Monday welcomed the new US strategy for Afghanistan and Pakistan, as announced by President Barack Obama last week.

In a statement issued here today on behalf of the Indian Government, Menon said: "We welcome the very clear expression of will to carry through the struggle against extremism in Afghanistan and its roots in Pakistan contained in the new comprehensive US strategy for Afghanistan and Pakistan."

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister meets MenonNew Delhi, Jan 5: Chinese Vice Foreign Minister He Yafei met Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon here today.

Yafei is also scheduled to meet National Secuirty Advisor M K Narayanan to defuse tensions between India and Pakistan following the Mumbai terror attacks.

The meeting was held ahead of Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi visit to India later this week.

India is expected to provide evidence of a Pakistani element''s involvement in the Mumbai terror attacks to Jiechi.

Shivshankar Menon to visit US after NSG deadlock

Shiv Shankar MenonNew Delhi/Washington, Aug 23: Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon will visit the US early next week to hold discussions with Americans officials in the wake of 45-nation Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) deciding to meet next month to consider a waiver for India to carry out nuclear commerce.

Menon is also expected to discuss current developments in Pakistan following President Pervez Musharraf's resignation as also the escalating violence in Kashmir during his meeting with Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs William Burns.

Foreign Secretary Menon leaves for Vienna for NSG meeting

Foreign Secretary Shivshankar MenonNew Delhi, Aug 19 : Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon will leave for Vienna today to attend the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) meeting.

Menon will lead a high-level team at a formal meeting with the NSG troika of Germany, South Africa and Hungary. The team includes Prime Minister’s Special Envoy Shyam Saran, Department of Atomic Energy (DAE)’s RB Grover and DB Venkatesh Varma from the Indian mission in Geneva.
