Holbrooke to raise A Q Khan issue

A Q KhanWashington, Feb. 10 : The US State Department has said that US Special Representative for Pakistan and Afghanistan, Richard Holbrooke will speak with the Pakistani authorities about the release of Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan from house arrest.

During his visit to Islamabad, Holbrooke is expected to meet President Asif Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and senior military commanders.

The US State Department also said that Foreign Ministry officials assured US Ambassador Anne Patterson on Sunday that A Q Khan would not be a future proliferation risk.

India expresses regret over A Q Khan''s acquittal

Dr. A Q KhanNew Delhi, Feb 7 : India has expressed regret over the acquittal of Pakistan''s disgraced nuclear scientist Dr. A Q Khan who has been accused of running a clandestine nuclear proliferation ring.

The Pakistan Government came to a secret out-of-court settlement on Friday, and declared Dr. Khan as a free citizen.

Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma said that Pakistan''s decision to let off Dr. Khan is yet another example of its deception.

He also said that Pakistan had always allowed individuals to act in a fashion detrimental to global security.

Dr AQ Khan’s wife files contempt of court petition over his continued detention

Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan''sIslamabad, July 28 : Pakistan’s nuclear scientist Dr AQ Khan’s wife has reportedly filed a contempt of court petition before the Islamabad High Court, claiming that despite the court order her husband continued to remain under house arrest.

The petition has named 11 personalities as respondents, including President Pervez Musharraf, Information Minister Sherry Rahman, Interior Secretary Kamal Shah, Attorney Gen Malik Qayyum, and others

Islamabad High Court ends A.Q. Khan''s house arrest

Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan''sIslamabad, July 21 : The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered the lifting of Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan''s house arrest.

According to a Geo TV report, Khan, who was the fulcrum of a proliferation export program from Pakistan, would be allowed to carry out research work, move within the country and meet with relatives after getting clearance from the concerned authorities.

The high court, however, said that he could not give interviews to the media.

The order was announced after the hearing Khan''s petition in which he demanded his immediate release from house arrest.

Pak govt may release evidence proving Dr AQ Khan’s role in N-proliferation

Islamabad, July 7 : In a bid to counter nuclear scientist Dr AQ Khan’s “media campaign” in support of his innocence, the Pakistan government is said to be seriously considering making public some of the evidence collected during the last three years about the proliferation network and Dr Khan’s alleged role in it.

Pak Deputy Attorney General given two weeks to report on AQ Khan’s detention

Islamabad June 28: Pakistan’s Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Raja Abdur Rehman has been asked to submit a report within a fortnight on Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan's detention.

The single bench of the Islamabad High Court headed by Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Aslam heard a writ petition filed by advocate Javed Iqbal Jafferi.

According to the Daily Times, Rehman told the court that Dr. Khan was not being kept in detention, as visitors were being allowed to meet him.

Rehman said that Khan's security had been beefed up for his protection, and added, “Khan is making statements that are against national interest, which could tarnish Pakistan’s image at a critical time.”
