Mandi gets its first ESI medical college

Oscar FernandesMandi (Himachal Pradesh), Feb 23 : Labour and Employment Minister Oscar Fernandes laid the foundation stone of Himachal Pradesh''''s first Employees State Insurance
Corporation Medical College at Nerchowk in Mandi District''''s Balh area on Monday.

The Employees Insurance Scheme (ESI) medical college, a one thousand crore rupees project, is also nation''''s first such college. It will have state of the art design and
facilities.

Speaking on the occasion, Fernandes said the first academic session of the college would start in 2011-2012. He also said that 14 per cent of the seats would be reserved

Oscar Fernandes says Amendments in Factories Acts, 1948 in final stage

Oscar FernandesFaridabad, Feb. 10: Minister of State for Labour and Employment Oscar Fernandes on Monday said the Government is seriously contemplating comprehensive amendments in the Factories Act, 1948 that would require the concerned agencies to come together periodically and deliberate upon the matters of Occupational Safety and Health.

While inaugurating the Regional Labour Institute at Faridabad in Haryana, Fernandes said the National Policy on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) has been approved by the Government, and is in its final stage.

Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar tops in child labour prevention

Oscar FernandesNew Delhi, Oct 21 : Minister of Labour and Employment Oscar Fernandes has informed the Lok Sabha that Uttar Pradesh tops in child labour prevention followed by Rajasthan and Bihar as the maximum number of children in the age group of 5-14 year were rescued and rehabilitated.

During the year 2007-08, Fernandes said 71,479 children were withdrawn from work and enrolled in special schools under the National Child Labour Project (NCLP) in Uttar Pradesh.

Uttar Pradesh was followed by Rajasthan and Bihar where 39,601 and 34,650 children were withdrawn from work and enrolled in special schools.
