BJP to field Mohan Chand Sharma''s wife in Delhi polls

Delhi encounter hero Mohan Chand SharmaNew Delhi, Oct 20 : The BJP has decided to field the wife of the late police inspector Mohan Chand Sharma for the 2008 Assembly elections, according to a website.

According to a politicsparty. com, BJP president Rajnath Singh and senior leader L K Advani took the decision.

Maya Sharma will be the candidate from the Gole Market Constituency.

Her rival Congress candidate will be Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

LIC presents nearly Rs. 20 lakh to encounter hero Sharma’s family

New Delhi, Sept 29 : The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) on Monday presented the family of slain Delhi Police Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma a sum of Rs. 19.98 lakhs.

LIC’s Senior Divisional Manager A K Sharma personally visited Sharma’s house in Dwarka and handed over cheques to his wife Maya Sharma, who was the nominee under all his insurance policies.

In a press release, the company said that the family wasn’t aware about his polices, but it came forward to settle the entire insured amount.

BJP demands Ashok Chakra for M C Sharma

New Delhi, Sept 21 : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday demanded that Delhi Police Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma who died battling terrorists during an encounter in Jamia Nagar should be bestowed with the Ashok Chakra.

BJP leader V K Malhotra said, "We demand Ashok Chakra for this brave officer who died fighting the militants."

"The Government should also immediately announce a financial package for his family," added Malhotra.

Sharma, who was 41 years old, served the Delhi Police for 19 years before falling to the bullet of heavily armed terrorists in a fierce gunfight at the Batla house in Jamia Nagar in New Delhi on September 19.

Delhi encounter hero Mohan Chand Sharma laid to restNew Delhi, Sept 20 : Delhi Police Special Cell inspector Mohan Chand Sharma, who succumbed last evening to bullet injuries received during an encounter in Jamia Nagar, was cremated with full state honours at Nigam Bodh Ghat here today.

A Delhi police contingent paid a gun salute to Sharma, who won several gallantry medals for his exceptional courage.

Delhi encounter hero Sharma succumbs to injuryNew Delhi, Sep 19 : Delhi Police Special Cell inspector Mohan Chand Sharma, who lead the team that killed two terrorists and arrested another in an encounter in Jamia Nagar here on Friday morning, succumbed to bullet injuries received during the encounter.

The 43-year-old and seven-gallantry award winner officer received several bullet injuries during the encounter.

He was operated upon at the Holy Family Hospital to remove bullets from his body but succumbed to his injuries later in the evening.
