The Bhupathi & Knowles pair were at ease throughout the match and hardly had any trouble to overpower their rivals 6-3, 6-1 in the $2,233,500 event. This was the 50th win for this Indo-Bahamian pair.

Mahesh BhupathiIn the Australian Open on Thursday, Mahesh Bhupathi chose to downplay his being on the edge of a career Grand Slam and what could have been a sparkling summit clash against Leander Paes.

Bhupati said after partnering Mark Knowles of the Bahamas to reach the men’s doubles final in the year’s first major, “I still have one more match to go.”

In the semi-finals, third seeded Bhupati and his partner Knowles beat Lukasz Kubot of Poland and Oliver Marach of Austria 6-3, 6-1.

Mahesh Bhupathi and Mark Knowles defeated the unseeded Polish-Austrian pair of Lukasz Kubot and Oliver Marach 6-3 6-1 taking just 58 minutes to win their semifinal encounter.

Mahesh Bhupathi has now a chance to grab his fifth men's doubles Grand Slam title, his first Australian Open title and 11th overall.

The Indian pair will now face the winners of the match between the Canadian pair of Aleksandra Wozniak and Daniel Nestor and second seed Chinese-Bahamian duo of Zi Yan and Mark Knowles.

The Indians took just 23 minutes to pocket the opening set.
