Karmapa Lama calls for peace in wake of Mumbai attacksBodhgaya, Dec 2: His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, Trinley Thaye Dorje led the prayers for world peace and liberation for all sentient beings here at the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodhgaya.

The Tibetan spiritual leader called upon people to embrace peace and compassion in the wake of Mumbai terror attacks and offer prayers to stop any further violence.

"These are sad and terrible times. We must put our focus of our wisdom to really reflect and do our best to pray to wish that all of these will cease," said Karmapa.

Dalai Lama may appoint a regent

Dalai Lama may appoint a regentTibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, is considering appointing a regent to lead the Tibetan movement after his death.

According to a newspaper report, the idea was discussed this week at an unprecedented meeting of 600 Tibetan exiles in Dharamsala.

Dalai Lama is now 73 and has been suffering from ill health. So he intends to ensure a smooth succession after his death.

The most likely candidate for the regency is the 23-year-old Karmapa Lama, the third highest in the Tibetan Buddhist hierarchy, who was born and raised in Tibet but escaped to India in 2000.
