Multiple shots fired from vehicle speeding past Biden's Delaware home

Joe BidenLondon, Jan 19 - Shots have been fired outside the residence of United States Vice-President Joe Biden in the state of Delaware but he was away at the time, a Secret Service official said.

Robert Hoback said that the shots were heard on Saturday from a public road in Greenville, which is several hundred metres away from the house and officers were investigating if the shots had hit anything, reported the BBC.

The Secret Service said that the vehicle from which the shots were fired drove past the vice president's house at high speed.

The shots were heard by a Secret Service personnel posted at the residence.

Lauding India as "a rising power", Biden patted its plans for future growth, saying the country had risen exponentially during the past decade mainly due to bold steps towards liberalization it took in 1991.

In this context, Biden said trade between India and the US grew five-fold to touch $100 billion in the past 13 years.

He was speaking on 'US-India Partnership' at the Bombay Stock Exchange.

Biden, who is accompanied by his wife Jill, was received by Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai as his aircraft landed at the Indian Air Force station, Palam.

The visit by the US vice president, his first since his swearing-in, is expected to lay the groundwork for the visit in September by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to the US. US Secretary of State John Kerry had visited India June 23-25.

Biden said she died "peacefully" in the company of much of her family in their home state of Delaware. She was married for 61 years to Biden's father, who passed away in 2002.
