UPA government trying to intimidate CBI probes: BJP

Arun-JaitleyNew Delhi, Nov 12 : The BJP Tuesday said the UPA government is trying to intimidate CBI investigations, and termed as "flawed" the stance of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Finance Minister P. Chidambaram that it was not proper for probe agencies to sit in judgement over policy decisions taken in good faith.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitley said the remarks of the prime minister and the finance minister were "disappointing, to say the least".

Congress trying to restrict free speech, says Jaitley

Arun-JaitleyNew Delhi, Nov 4 : Senior leader of the BJP Arun Jaitley Monday accused the Congress of posing threats to the right of freedom of expression, and said: "A potential loser in the elections cannot seek to alter the rules of free speech."

The Bharatiya Janata Party leader, in an article on the party's website, was responding to a statement from the Congress seeking a restriction on opinion polls, in the run-up to the elections.

Bihar government soft on terror, says BJP

Arun-JaitleyNew Delhi, Oct 28 : The BJP Monday condemned Sunday's serial blasts in Patna and charged the Bihar government of being "soft on terror".

"We condemn the blasts... there should be an investigation into it," Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitley said at a press conference.

Jaitley accused the Bihar government of "being soft on terror" and criticised Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's Sunday statement that no specific intelligence was available about the blasts.

Rahul trashes ordinance, BJP seeks PM's response

Arun-JaitleyNew Delhi, Sep 27 : Terming Rahul Gandhi's remarks on the ordinance on convicted law-makers as "damage control", the BJP Friday asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh if he accepted his party vice president's description of the decision taken by his government.

Bharatiya Janata Party leader Arun Jaitley said that Gandhi's remarks that the ordinance was "nonsense" were "grandstanding" and aimed at "damage control".

Arun-JaitleyNew Delhi, Aug 24 : Bharatiya Janata Party leader Arun Jaitley Saturday attacked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for not having "last word" in the decision-making process, suggesting he lacked political stature and experience.

Jaitley also criticised Congress president Sonia Gandhi for her iron grip on the government despite remaining outside which has resulted in "structural defect" in the governance.

He, however, did not directly name the two Congress leaders.

Arun-JaitleyNew Delhi, Aug 13 : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday demanded withdrawal of Rajya Sabha Chairperson Hamid Ansari's "federation of anarchists" remark relating to the house.

The house was adjourned till 12 noon following protests by the BJP members demanding suspension of question hour to discuss the purportedly illegal land deals of Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra.

The protest forced Ansari to say: "Every single rule, every single etiquette is being violated. If the honourable members wish the house to become a federation of anarchists, then it's a different thing."

Omar-AbdullahNew Delhi, Aug 12 : Hitting out at BJP leader Arun Jaitley for terming the Kishtwar violence "a threat to India's sovereignty", Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Monday called the BJP "hypocrites" over the party-led Gujarat government's response to the 2002 sectarian riots.

Taking to twitter, Abdullah asked: "Would Jaitley be so kind as to inform parliament whether the Gujarat home minister or MOS Home resigned or even offered to in 2002?"

Arun-JaitleyNew Delhi, Aug 12 : The violence in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar town is not just a communal clash but "a threat to India's sovereignty", Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley said Monday.

"It is not an inter-community disturbance. In inter-community disturbances flags of a neighbouring country are not flashed... This is an issue of threat to India's sovereignty," Jaitley said in the upper house.

Chidambaram meets BJP leaders, seeks support for financial bills

Chidambaram.New Delhi, Aug 3 : Finance Minister P. Chidambaram Saturday met BJP leaders Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj and Yashwant Sinha to seek the main opposition party's support for financial legislation during the monsoon session of parliament beginning Aug 5.

Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said that some suggestions were agreed to during the meeting but there was no meeting ground on some others.

"Some suggestions were agreed to and on some others, there was no agreement," he said but declined to go into the details.

Arun-JaitleyNew Delhi, June 4 :  Accusing the Congress-led UPA government of "destroying institutions,", BJP leader Arun Jaitley Tuesday said that the cost of its "Modi-phobia" would be paid by the Intelligence Bureau (IB) in the case of the alleged killing of Ishrat Jahan.

In an article on the party's website Tuesday, Jaitley said there were news reports that the CBI has been interrogating senior officers of the IB in the case of alleged killing of Jahan.

"If India can be kicked around internationally, then there must be something seriously wrong with our foreign policy," BJP's Arun Jaitley said in the Rajya Sabha.

He referred in this connection to snubs which he said had been delivered in recent times by the Maldives, Italy and Pakistan to India. Jaitley said there was a serious need to discuss the foreign policy.(IANS)

"The budget is verbose but on substance, extremely low," said leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley.

"First put the economy in distress; then a helpless finance minister comes out with a budget in which he had very little elbow space," Jaitley said.
