The names for this year's Padma Bhushan awardees have been declared. It is, like every other year, a mixture from every area of the society. It includes businessmen, music composers, ex-RBI governor and also many sports personalities.

President Pratibha Patil is going to give these awards in New Delhi. The names of the award winning personalities includes NRI hotelier, Sant Singh Chatwal, businessman Vindi Banga, noted mrudangam exponent, Umayalpuram K Sivaraman and music composer, Ilaiyaraaja . Zohra Sehgal and former RBI governor, YV Reddy are going to be given Padma Vibhushan.

Besides this, Ramakant Achrekar, coach of Sachin Tendulakar, Rekha and boxer Vijendra Singh, were also given the second highest civilian awards in the country.

But the function was marred with controversies. The government has asked an RTI applicant to keep the names with himself and not make it public.

What is worth noting is that there are no such provisions in the act. The Information Ministry was asked to reveal the names by the Central Information Communication. It has provided it saying that the names are for private consumption and not for publicity in the media.
