Over 250 Tibetans arrested in Kathmandu

250 Tibetans have been arrested Kathmandu, Mar 25 :by police for holding protests in the Kathmandu Valley against Chinese oppression inside Tibet.

Superintendent of Police Sarbendra Khanal said that only 140 were arrested and released later.

The protesters, who raised slogans like, "Protect human rights", "We want freedom" and "Free Tibet", said that they will conduct a memorial service here to pay tribute to the Tibetans who had died during the recent violence in Tibet.

The Tibetans also staged a peaceful protest in front of the UN office at Pulchowk. About a dozen were injured during a baton-charge at Maitighar, Pulchowk and other parts of the Valley.

The OHCHR-Nepal expressed concern over the detentions of several hundred individuals.

Meanwhile, dozens of human rights defenders have been arrested for planning to organize a protest at Maitighar. All have been released since.
