Opening of Burj Dubai postponed

Opening of Burj Dubai postponedAs per the latest information, the Burj Dubai - the tallest tower in the world - will not open in September, but in December. This means that it will be finished three months later than scheduled.

It was specified by two contractors involved with the project that the new deadline was December, since there was work still left to be completed outside and inside the building.

The earlier reports, which said that there would be a "soft opening" on Sept 9, were dismissed by a person close to Emaar Properties, the company developing the Burj Dubai.

Emaar, which said the building was scheduled to open this year, did not confirm the December opening. The company said that in a few days, the remaining details would be made public.

Last June, Mohammed Alabbar, the chairman had specified that the project would be ready by September this year.

Emaar has not even given the requisite details regarding the final height of the Burj, which is thought to have topped the earlier-this-year disclosure of 818 metres. There are rumors suggesting that the building could reach 888 metres.

A source in-the-know has said: "Burj Dubai is part of the Dh73.4 billion (US$19.98bn) Downtown Burj Dubai development."
