A new twist has been witnessed in the global warming debate. Scientists from the US National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) have carried out an assessment as per which, ‘slow down’ in global warming has never taken place. And, heating up procedure is taking place without any stop.

Researchers have based their finding on the data from latest global surface temperature. “Adding in the last two years of global surface temperature data and other improvements in the quality of the observed record provide evidence that contradict the notion of a hiatus in recent global warming trends”, said Thomas R. Karl, Director, NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information.

Karl thinks the much-discussed hiatus could have been the result of the limitations in past datasets. The new analysis has also found that the rate of warming over the last 15 years in this century has remained fast or faster, in fact, at such a level never seen over the last half of the 20th century.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) Fifth Assessment Report said that the upward global surface temperature trend from 1998 to 2012 was lower than the trend seen in 1951 to 2012.

The new analysis also suggests that hiatus might have also been the result due to incomplete spatial coverage. Researchers said that spatial coverage has improved owing to the analysis of dozens of data sets.
