Nokia To Launch 'Live Tools' For Farmers, Students In India
Nokia is gradually fulfilling its goal of reaching out to the end-consumers.
And this time, the Finnish giant plans to roll out subscription-based mobile phone services ‘live tools’ for the farming and student community in India.
Mr. D. Shiva Kumar, Managing Director, Mobile Phones, Nokia India, stated that with these new services, farmers can easily get information on agriculture, commodity prices and weather to the farming community and other related issues over their mobile handsets.
On the sidelines of a conference at the Indian School of Business, Mr. Kumar said that this service will be offered in alliance with Reuters.
Alongside, in the case of students, they can get a service imparting knowledge of language by making them understand a few key words of the language.
The students will be taught a new word on a daily basis, and also know how to use it. It is said that if one learns about 700 words, he/she will be capable of conversing in that language.
The new services, to be launched later this month, will be offered at a monthly rental of Rs 30 and Rs 60 per user.
Earlier in 2009, Nokia has also decided to roll its new handsets with music features wherein a purchaser will have access to music and 100s of titles for one full year.
This is being brought to India in association with music companies.
Earlier, Mr. Kumar said that India has become the second biggest market for Nokia after China.
While talking about the manufacturing facility near Chennai, he said that it has become the biggest manufacturing base for Nokia, and phones made in this plant are now being exported to more than 57 countries.
By constant effort to offer products, which serve the local market needs, Nokia has been able to sustain its business in India, he said.
