The BSE benchmark index opened strongly at 17,467.41, and touched a record high of 17,729.94 in the opening time. The Sensex continued its positive rally as sustained buying interest was witnessed in the heavyweights; further optimistic worldwide cues chaired the rally. All sectors were trading in positive.

Asian stocks also boosted after Citigroup made an offer to purchase the resting 32% of Nikko Cordial Corp. Many forecasters were of the belief that this may encourage merger & acquisitions. The financial stocks had dipped after the US subprime slide down.

Nasal Spray To Fight Alzheimer’s Disease Shortly

London: Here’s good news for people with Alzheimer’s disease. Now they no longer need to suffer the bad effects of the disease. Israeli researchers have developed a nasal spray crammed with viruses known as ‘bacteriophages’ that can relieve the annihilative signs of Alzheimer’s disease.

The scientists have stated that their spray has the capability to crack up beta amyloid, a sticky protein, which blocks the brain in Alzheimer’s patients to wipe out links among nerve cell.

China Banishes Canadian Poultry Imports

Beijing: A recent report has showed that China has banished Canadian poultry imports after the bird flu detection on a farm in west Canada.

The report also said that the prohibition covers up all poultry and related products. It also orders the return or annihilation of poultry products imported after September 23.

All Canadian poultry products, which must move across China en route to other nations also, must be banned.

Study Confirms ‘India’ As A Rising BPO Hub

A recent study has discovered that India is emerging as a BPO hub. India not only explicates three out of five top known worldwide outsourcing destinations, but also has the maximum number of rising cities in this field.

According to a study by CyberMedia’s Global Services magazine, the top five well-established hubs for outsourcing include Bangalore, India's National Capital Territory, Manila, Mumbai and Dublin.

Red wine ingredient may help fight diabetes

Washington, Oct 03: According to a new finding, low doses of red wine ingredient resveratrol can help improve the sensitivity of mice to insulin.

It was found that relatively low doses of resveratrol, a chemical found in the skins of red grapes and in red wine that can also activate the SIRT1 enzyme, earlier linked to longevity, DNA repair, and insulin secretion.

Resveratrol is known to activate the SIRT1 enzyme.

FDA approves knee-injury device for use in humans

Washington, Oct 3: US agency the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a new knee-surgery device developed by researchers at the University of Missouri-Columbia which helps in repairing meniscus tears for use in humans.

The device, called BioDuct Meniscal Fixation Device, helps repair meniscus tears, which were previously defined as irreparable.

The meniscus, a padding tissue that provides shock absorption and joint stability in the knee, is essential for normal knee function.
