Amazon announces free shipping option for regular customers

Internet retailing giant Amazon announced a free shipping option for regular customers.

The company will ship small items weighing no more than 8 ounces (230 grams) and priced $10 and below free within the US. In addition to being cheap and light weight, items must also fit within the dimensions of 9in x 6in x 2in.

Amazon Prime is an annual subscription that offers free two-day shipping on millions of products, unlimited photo storage, Prime Instant Video, Amazon Prime Music, Kindle First and the Kindle Owners' Lending Library.

The new initiative dubbed as 'Fulfillment by Amazon Small and Light' is available for all customers, even if they are not Prime subscribers.

Wal-Mart to Raise Minimum Wages of over 100,000 US Employees

There are chances that world's largest retailer Wal-Mart Stores could make its second wage hike this year. The largest private employer in the United States said that it will increase minimum wages of more than 100,000 US employees.

On Tuesday, the company announced that from July it will increase hourly wages for managers of service-oriented departments like electronics and auto care from $10.30-$20.09 to $13-$24.70.

Hourly wages of managers of departments like clothing and consumer products will increase from $9.90-$19.31 to $10.90-$20.71. Workers at specialized areas like the deli sections, workers will earn $9.90-$18.81 per hour in comparison with $9.20-$18.53 currently.

Todd J. Vasos named for position of chief executive officer of Dollar General Corporation

It has been announced by Dollar General Corporation that Wilmington native Todd J. Vasos, Dollar General's current chief operating officer has been named as chief executive officer of the company; he has been named by the company's board of directors.

According to a news release from the company, after the election of Vasos to Dollar General's board, the total number of directors will become nine. Vasos will be succeeding Rick Dreiling, who is at present, chairman and CEO of the company. Dreiling has already announced regarding his retirement plans.

Scientists discover 2,000-year-old natural sea pearl

According to Australian scientists, they have discovered a 'very rare' 2,000-year-old natural sea pearl. It is the first pearl found on the island continent. It has been uncovered during excavation of a remote coastal Aboriginal site.

According to Kat Szabo, an associate professor at the University of Wollongong, archeologists were carrying out the excavations on the north Kimberley coast of Western Australia when they found the gem under the surface.

A team of scientists claim that they have found the oldest sauropod dinosaur in the UK from a fossilized bone that was discovered near Whitby, Yorkshire.

As per researchers these gigantic creatures believed to have walked earth approximately 176 million years ago during the Middle Jurassic Period.

Sauropods, also known as brontosaurs were among the biggest herbivorous dinosaurs that lived, and this group of dinosaurs lived for almost 150 million years.

This group of dinosaurs is mainly characterized by small heads, long necks and tails as well as a large body.

Argentinosaurus, one of the species of sauropods that lived, measured 115 feet long and may have weighed up to 80 tons, said experts.
