Small bird fossil discovered in Araripe Basin of Brazil

It is difficult to preserve thin and fragile bones of birds. Now, a new discovery of fossil of a bird with long arrow-like tail feathers has created excitement among Brazilian researchers; it is the first bird of its kind and, therefore, the discovery is also unique.

The discovery was made in the Araripe Basin of Brazil; thousands of fossils have already been discovered here. Here, fossils of turtles, fish, insects and flying reptiles from the Cretaceous period have been found.

Mysterious moon swirls related to icy comet impacts: Study

In March, scientists published a paper in order to discuss Mercury’s mysterious black color. The paper was published by scientists from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. It appears that Mercury is much darker compared to Earth’s moon, and this has created confusion among scientists since long.

Moon looks darker compared to other objects in the solar system for the reason that this world has no air and it was affected by ‘darkening’ processes together with bombardment of solar wind and micrometeorite impacts. Thin coating of dark iron nanoparticles forms on its surface as a result of the two processes; therefore it appears darker when it is observed from a distance.

Largest Atom Collider ‘LHC’ to kick off Operations once again

CERN researchers are preparing to conduct experiments at the Large Hadron Collider after a two-year shutdown. The LHC is more powerful now than it was before the overhaul. Researchers are optimistic that the LHC-restart will enable them make new discoveries to understand the existence of universe.

The rise in power of the LHC has increased the hopes of researchers to make new breakthroughs to understand the reason behind the formation of the universe and why everything in the universe has mass.

Scientists will collide two particle beams with each other in order to smash them together at nearly the speed of light. The evidence of the Higgs boson meant confirmation for the fundamental particle that enables all other particles in the ‘Standard Model’ of physics to have matter.

Formation of Pluto Moons looks like Miniature Planetary System

If you see placement of the five moons of Pluto then you will notice that they are formed like a miniature planetary system. Researchers have termed this type of formation to be quite unique.

In 1978, Pluto’s largest moon, Charon, was discovered. Charon is quite huge in size, around one-ninth the mass of Pluto. In fact, it is so large that the center of mass of two lies outside Pluto, which often makes some planetary scientists to consider Pluto and Charon as double planet.

In images taken by the Hubble Space Telescope in 2005, two smaller moons of Pluto, Nix and Hydra, were discovered. After six years, another moon, Kerberos, was discovered between the orbits of Nix and Hydra. After a year, astronomers announced the fifth moon, Styx.

Chimpanzees have Cognitive Abilities required to Cook Food

A new research has made an interesting discovery. Researchers have come to know that cognitive abilities considered to be limited to humans are even present in chimpanzees.

In fact, it has also been found that if chimpanzees are aware of the fact that they have the chance to eat cooked vegetables and have them later, then they are ready to save them for cooking.

Study researchers said that chimps prefer taste of cooked food. Researchers said that the transition to cooked food is considered as an important evolutionary milestone as this skill might have allowed our primitive forebears to increase their diet and have more calories.

Face of Saxon Man discovered beneath Lincoln Castle Recreated

A team from the University of Dundee has recreated the face of a Saxon man buried at Lincoln Castle around 1,000 years back.

The person whose face has been recreated is thought to have been around 40. He is considered to be one of eight people buried at the site between 1035 and 1070. His skull was best preserved as his grave was present under an important sarcophagus burial allowing the experts from the Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification (CAHID) to recreate his face.

Experts have given the reconstructed face a 'Beatles style' hair-do. His face will be on display at the castle at a time when the Princess Royal will visit as part of her visit to Lincoln Monday.
