US assesses Pak situation post Swat offensive as “very dire”Washington, June 7 : The United States has assessed the on ground situation in Pakistan as "very dire", following the military operation against the Taliban in tribal areas.

US Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs P J Crowley admitted that the current offensive has had an impact on the Pakistani population and the number of internally- displaced persons is more than two million.

Crowley said the US would do everything in a bid to help Pakistan rehabilitate its IDPs.

The Airbus jet, with 228 people on board, disappeared early last Monday as it made its way from Rio de Janiero, heading to Paris.
