Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin opens its doors to reporters

Blue Origin is a space technology and travel company promoted by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, and on Tuesday, the company opened its doors to reporters for the first time ever. Bezos welcomed everybody at Blue Origin, and at the same time thanked them for taking out time and paying a visit.

Blue Origin marks shift of space business from NASA and aerospace behemoths such as Lockheed Martin in the direction of private industry, mainly smaller entrepreneurial companies.

Founded by another Internet entrepreneur, Elon Musk, Space Exploration Technologies, or SpaceX has been the most popular and successful one among the new generation of rocket and space technology companies.

It has turned out that men who depend on other men for support, advice and companionship could be onto something. A latest study conducted by the University of California, Berkley, has found that when men are social with each other, they could be more resilient to stress.

At least the phenomenon is true in the case of rats. The researchers wanted to know how social relationships can possibly influence rodents' ability of dealing with stress.

The researchers roomed male rats together. They shared same cage, and were exposed to a mild stressor. They noticed that the animals were more social than they tended to be in an environment that wasn't stressful.

California passes bills raising smoking age to 21 and regulating e-cigarettes as tobacco products

Two bills, SB7, which increases the smoking age to 21, and SB5 which standardizes e-cigarettes as tobacco products have been passed by the State Assembly. Passed on February 25, both the bills are likely to pass in the State Senate before it reaches on the desk of Governor Jerry Brown.

Public health advocates’ attempts of pushing past the clout of the tobacco industry in the state have majorly been an uphill fight. Prime goal of both the bills is to curb the tobacco usage among teenagers which can result into a lifelong addiction.

Former US President Jimmy Carter doesn’t need further treatment for the metastatic melanoma that spread across his liver and brain. Former President Carter has been able to recover miraculously because of a drug Keytruda, which is among the new drugs that focus on treatment called immunotherapy.

Immunotherapy-based drugs take help from a person’s own immune system for fighting the cancer, in the case of Carter it was melanoma, which takes nearly 10,000 lives in America every year. Some refer to the treatment Keytruda as the ‘golden age of chemotherapy drugs’ and a ‘miracle cure’.

Breakfast sandwich sold at Starbucks recalled over listeria fears

Starbucks’ pre-packaged sausage, egg, and cheddar cheese on English muffin breakfast sandwiches from its Arkansas, Texas, and Oklahoma stores have been recalled over concerns that the products could have traces of listeria.

The contaminated products belong to Progressive Gourmet, a Wilmington, Massachusetts supplier. It is packed in a six-ounce, clear plastic, and has been marked with ‘Best Before: 07-AUG-2016’.

In an online statement, the FDA noted that the Seattle-based coffee chain has pulled off the sandwiches from its all 250 stores that have probably received it.
