Stem-cell therapy treats 58-year old American's 40 years of blindness

New Delhi [India], Oct. 2 : Stem-cell therapy, that uses stem cells to treat or prevent a disease or condition, is indeed a one to uproot different long-drawn diseases.

Noida-based stem cells therapy solution provider, Advancells, has successfully improved the vision of a 58-year-old American National, Al Purdy, who was suffering from macular degeneration.

The therapy has helped the patient, who had been legally blind for 40 years, experience significantly improved vision and become self-reliant.

Al Purdy had been inflicted with macular degeneration, and had little hope of recovery until he decided to receive stem cell therapy from Advancells after thorough research.

Several programmes organised across nation marking two years of 'Swacch Bharat Mission'

New Delhi [India], Oct. 2 : Several programmes are being organised across the country to mark 'Swacch Bharat Mission' which completes two years today.

The programme was launched on Gandhi Jayanti Day in 2014 and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given a clarion call on the Independence Day from the ramparts of the Red Fort to make India clean by 2019 which will coincide with 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

He had said that Cleanliness and sanitation were very close to the heart of Father of the Nation and it is social responsibility of every citizen to help fulfill Gandhiji's vision of Clean India.

New Delhi [India], Oct. 2 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid homage to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi on his 147th birth anniversary today and said that his ideals, dedication to the poor and struggle against injustice were inspiring.

President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Modi and other dignitaries visited Rajghat, the Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi to offer tributes.

Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu, Senior BJP leader L K Advani, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad also paid homage to the Father of the nation.

An all religion prayer meeting was organised at Rajghat and a series of functions are being organised across the country to mark the day.

Apricot processing unit generates employment in Kargil

Kargil (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], Oct. 2 : A first of its kind initiative, where a government owned apricot processing unit is providing employment to scores of youths in Jammu and Kashmir's Kargil district.

In order to boast this fruit and generate employment in the district, cooperative society of Kargil started its first apricot processing unit in which they produce apricot jam, oil and juices.

"This government owned factory is useful for the people as we make jams, oils and juices here. We brings apricots from the nearby places and then we make jams, other things out of it. It is big benefit for the students, who have left their studies," said Rehaana Mathur, a yound employee.

"If this factory works for many more years then if would benefit a lot many people," she added.

Etawah: Crocodiles on the prowl, villagers fear for life

Etawah (Uttar Pradesh), Oct. 2 : A crocodile entered the Gangapura village in Etawah and created panic and commotion among the villagers recently. The villagers charged after it with sticks and lamps but the reptile was eventually rescued by the Forest Department officials.

The crocodile which entered the Gangapura was more than five feet long. The villagers got scared and attacked the reptile. A villager informed the Society for Conservation of Nature on Friday. The Environment specialists and Forest Department personnel rescued the crocodile and left it in the Chambal River.

In Kotli, PoK residents take to streets against atrocities by Pakistani Army

Muzaffarabad (PoK), Oct. 2 : Kotli residents in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) recently took to the streets to protest against the atrocities committed by the Pakistan Army and the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

The agitation was launched against extra-judicial killings, fake encounters and brutalities committed on pro-Azadi leaders, who disagree with the Pakistan State.

The angry mob raised slogans such as "Butcher of Kashmiris, Pakistan Army", "Dogs are more loyal than ISI".

The protesters demand an independent investigation into the murder of Arif Shahid, a major Kashmiri nationalist leader, chairman of the All Parties National Alliance (APNA), and president of the Jammu Kashmir National Liberation Conference (JKNLC).
