Russia denies holding joint military exercises with Pakistan in Gilgit-Baltistan

New Delhi [India], Sept. 24 : Russia has rubbished reports that its troops will be holding joint military exercises with Pakistani forces in Gilgit Baltistan, which is a part of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, and clarified the anti-terror drills will take place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region.

The denial came as Russian troops arrived in Islamabad on Friday for the first-ever joint exercises with Pakistani forces.

The exercise begins from today under the name 'Friendship-2016' and reflects growing military ties between the two countries.

Deputy Director of Information and Press Department Yury Materiy said that Russia holds such military drills with other countries of the region as well.

Congress asks Centre to explain 'advantages' of Rafale deal

New Delhi [India], Sept. 24 : The Congress party on Saturday called on the NDA government to explain the advantages of the Rafale fighter jet deal inked between India and France.

"The government of the day must explain what are the advantages of this deal, what are the benefits that have construed out of this long period of waiting? Is there a technology advancement after a decade and what are the benefits that would construe to be useful for the country after all this is about national security?" Congress leader Tom Vadakkan told ANI.

"We need more weaponry, we need more aircrafts, we need more equipment to make our nation up to date to fight matters concerning our national interest," he said.

What will happen if Tamil Nadu passes a different resolution on Cauvery water, asks CPI

New Delhi [India], Sept. 24 : With a special session of the Karnataka state assembly yesterday passing a resolution asking the government to use Cauvery water only to meet the state's drinking water needs, Communist Party of India (CPI) national secretary D. Raja on Saturday said if Karnataka passes such a resolution, then the Tamil Nadu assembly can pass a different resolution, then where will it lead to; it will lead to another situation of confrontation and conflict among states, and thus, both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu should honour the Supreme Court verdict.

Raja further said it should be a matter that should be considered by lawmakers and political parties, and as directed by the apex court, the Central Government should constitute a Cauvery Management Authority.
