Kashmir's tourism sector cries out for ending prolonged shutdown

Srinagar [India], Sept. 25 : It is not only that people in the Kashmir Valley are suffering from the prolonged shutdown, but also the tourism sector that has been massively affected by the two-month-long unrest.

The quaint and serene town of Pahalgam situated on the banks of the River Lidder in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir is considered to be one of the most beautiful places in the Kashmir Valley.

Nearby places like Baisaran, Betaab Valley, Aru Valley, Kolahoi Glacier and Sheshnag are vibrant examples of nature at its scenic best.

The Pahalgam golf course is also a major attraction for tourists, and there are around 200 hotels and lodges, besides hundreds of ponywallas, all of whom are dependent for their livelihood on a regular flow of tourists.

New Delhi [India], Sept.24 : Indian scientists have validated the scientific basis of the mysterious 'special power' of the water of Ganga, which Hindus consider as "Brahm Dravya" or divine elixir.

Microbiologists from the Chandigarh-based Institute of Microbial Technology (IMTECH), who had studied the special characteristics of Ganges water have found, for the first time, several Bacteriophages, which keeps it non-putrefying. Bacteriophage is a type of virus that eats bacteria.

This resolves the mystery for the self-purifying properties of Ganga water.

Household dust can decline IQ level in children, trigger respiratory problems: Study

Washington D.C [USA], Sept. 24 : Household dust exposes people to a wide range of toxic chemicals from everyday products, states a recent study conducted at the George Washington University.

The team conducted a first-of-a-kind meta-analysis, compiling data from dust samples to identify the top ten toxic chemicals commonly found in dust.

They found that DEHP, a chemical belonging to a hazardous class called phthalates, was number one on that list.

In addition, the researchers found that phthalates overall were found at the highest levels in dust followed by phenols and flame retardant chemicals.

Droppable Rooney enjoys no 'privileges', insists Mourinho

London [UK], Sept. 24 : Blaming Wayne Rooney's disappointing form for the criticism he attracted when playing for England against Slovakia, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has insisted that the skipper doesn't enjoy any privileges and can be dropped from the team.

Mourinho, who is under the scanner after United slumped to three successive defeats last week, would not, unlike his predecessor Louis van Gaal, guarantee Rooney a starting place.

The Portuguese is considering leaving the 30-year-old out of Saturday's game against Leicester City and has made it clear that Rooney no longer enjoys the "privileges" as skipper he used to under van Gaal.

"He is our captain, but of course, no privilege - he is like anyone else," the Guardian quoted Mourinho as saying.

When asked if she would like to be the next Bond girl, Priyanka said she would like to be the " next Bond", adding it would be really cool to have a "female Bond" this time around.
