Hospital refuses to hand over brother's body to Union Minister, asks for new notes

Mangaluru (Karnataka) [India], Nov. 23 : Union Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda has become the latest victim of the demonetisation drive after the administration of the Kasturba Manipal Hospital in Mangaluru refused to accept old currency notes to clear pending bills for handing over the body of his brother.

Minister of Statistics and Programme Implementation Sadananda Gowda's brother Bhaskar Gowda was receiving treatment in the hospital for severe jaundice for the last 10 days and breathed his last on Tuesday afternoon.

When the Union Minister, accompanied by his family members, friends, arrived at the hospital to take the body, he cleared Rs. 60, 000 pending bills with old Rs. 500 and Rs.1000 notes, which the hospital authorities declined to accept.

New Delhi [India], Nov. 23 : The allegations of ball tampering leveled against Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli by a British tabloid did not hold much ground as per the specific clauses in the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Rules and Regulations about playing conditions.

After the 'mintgate' row involving South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis in which he was found guilty of ball-tempering, a British tabloid had yesterday accused that some footages of the Rajkot Test indicated that Kohli appeared to shine the ball using residue from a sweet.

However, the England team have not filed any complaint and have also declined to comment on the issue.

Rs. 20 crore Naxals' black money deposited in Chhattisgarh banks

Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], Nov. 23 : More than 50 banks in Naxal-hit areas of Chhattisgarh have recorded deposits of nearly Rs. 20 crores within two weeks. Based on an intelligence report, transactions in these accounts have been put on hold.

Police suspect the money deposited belonged to the Naxals and that the latter is using the bank accounts of other people to escape the demonetisation drive.

Police said they are not making the names of the account holders' public as of now, but if the money was found to be of Naxals, legal action will be taken against the latter for helping the former.

Aurangabad beams as Ajanta Cave paintings feature on Rs.2000 note

Aurangabad (Maharashtra) [India], Nov. 23 : Paintings of Ajanta Caves No. one, two and 17 appearing on the Rs.2000 currency note are being considered as 'acknowledgement' of Arthkranti launched by Aurangabad economist Anil Bokil during the World Heritage Week Special which lasts from November 19 to November 25.

Aurangabad residents see this development as a matter of great pride and honour.

The currency note has a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi; Father of the Nation, on the front, a motif of Mangalyaan (Mars Orbiter Mission) on the reverse, a language panel and a panel of Ajanta paintings at the bottom. It comprises of animal motifs, including an elephant, a swan and a stem with three blooms of the Lotus, India's national flower.
