Couples who share child-care responsibility are more satisfied in their relationships

Couples who share child-care duties report better sexual lives, low level of conflict and high overall couple satisfaction rate. Researchers said that main problem is when the female has to do most of or all of the work involved with children.

Study’s lead researcher Dan Carlson, a sociologist from Georgia State University, said that situations are quite contrasting in the case of men and women. Women have reported the highest satisfaction when their partners take maximum duty of childcare.

On the other hand, men who do most of the work with children have reported not satisfactory sexual quality life than men who divide childcare duties with their partner.

Scientists Working to develop Vaccine to Fight Multiple Strains of Influenza

Researchers at Johnson & Johnson are one step closer to develop a universal flu vaccine that could work against a number of strains of influenza. The vaccine will act as a holy grail in the medical field that could eliminate the need of formulating a new vaccine every year.

A study conducted on mice and monkeys by the Scripps Research Institute and J&J's Janssen Pharmaceutical unit showed that a molecule designed in the lab to mimic a key part of the flu virus's attack could help to stay protected against multiple influenza strains.

Still, a lot of work has to be done by scientists to make the vaccine that works on humans, but findings of the study published online on Monday by the journal Science are just a ‘proof of principle’.

Heart Medication can prolong Ovarian Cancer Patient survival

A team of researchers said that ovarian cancer patients who use any specific kind of blood pressure drug often live longer as compared to other patients who do not take any kind of those medications.

Researchers in a first-of-its-kind study found that giving patients with epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) generic heart medications known as beta blockers can help boost their overall survival.

According to the researchers from University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Centre in US, the heart drugs block the effects of stress pathways involved in growth and spread of the tumor.

The findings of the study are based on a retrospective analysis of the medical records of approximately 1,425 women with ovarian cancer who were treated between 2000 and 2010.

Uncertainty Over legal Cutoff of Medicaid Funds by Republican Governors

Republican governors in different states announced a cutoff of Medicaid funds to clinics of Planned Parenthood after the group’s officials were secretly recorded discussing how fetal tissue can be used for medical research. But now this step of republican governors has raised question whether they are permitted to do so under federal law or not.

Medicaid pays funds for health care of the poor, and says that every individual can visit any provider who is qualified to perform the service. In Louisiana, about 5,000 low-income women rely on Planned Parenthood clinics in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, which offer birth control, pregnancy testing and other medical screenings, but no abortions.

Sierra Leone's treatment center discharges country’s last Ebola patient

Adama Sankoh, the Sierra Leone's last Ebola patient, was released from a treatment center Monday. She contracted the disease after her 23-year-old son succumbed to the disease late last month.

Although the Sierra Leone's last Ebola patient has been discharged, the WHO won’t declare it Ebola-free until six months after the last patient is discharged or buried. The period is double the duration of the maximum incubation period of the virus. Seems that WHO want to be ultra careful with regards to this lethal virus.
