Couples who share child-care responsibility are more satisfied in their relationships
Couples who share child-care duties report better sexual lives, low level of conflict and high overall couple satisfaction rate. Researchers said that main problem is when the female has to do most of or all of the work involved with children.
Study’s lead researcher Dan Carlson, a sociologist from Georgia State University, said that situations are quite contrasting in the case of men and women. Women have reported the highest satisfaction when their partners take maximum duty of childcare.
On the other hand, men who do most of the work with children have reported not satisfactory sexual quality life than men who divide childcare duties with their partner.
The researchers have based the findings on the basis of data collected in 2006 from 487 couples from low-income and middle-class homes. “Our culture has consistently moved toward the attitude that having an equal partnership is good and important, and that has increased over time”, affirmed Carlson.
From the survey it was found that majority of the couples share child-care tasks. Women reported sharing child-care duties with their partners 73.4% of the time and men reported sharing the duties 80% of the time.
Majority of the couples surveyed were very satisfied with their relationships and they have reported very low-level of conflict.
