Researchers have highlighted several health benefits associated with walking and healthy eating. ACSM has also called actions to create healthier, more active communities in the US. The speakers have also asked for making communities safer and more accessible for wheelchairs.

Peter Norton, who has studied the history of transportation, said, “If the Surgeon General had called for people to exercise more, that would be just another predictable announcement; But he called for walking”.

On September 9, the surgeon general of the United States, Vivek Murthy, issued a call to address major public health challenges such as heart disease and diabetes.

The drawings of the tattoos were brought together at the Meadowlands Expo Center by an appreciation for the ancient but long-derided art form of ink on skin.

The tattoos that have become quite popular in recent years includes long symbol of rebellion. These could be seen drawn on some public figures as well.

High fish intake curbs Depression, suggests Study

New studies have suggested that high fish intake can reduce the risk of depression. Researchers conducted many studies in Europe, North America, South America, Asia and Oceania to find benefits of consuming fish.

The results showed that people who consumed most fish have about 17% lower risk of depression compared to people who did not consume the most fish. A study conducted at the Qingdao University’s Medical College in China suggested that men who eat fish have about 20% lower chances of developing depression.

Longer School Lunch linked to Healthier Food Choices: Study

According to recent findings published in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, shorter lunch periods can have an impact on whether students make healthier food choices. Researchers at Harvard University discovered that students who had less than 20 minutes for eating their lunches ate significantly less of their entrees, milk and/or vegetables in comparison to those, who were not in a hurry and had more time.

In a statement, lead study author Juliana Cohen, adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Nutrition at Harvard Chan School, said, “Many children, especially those from low-income families, rely on school meals for up to half their daily energy intake so it is essential that we give students a sufficient amount of time to eat their lunches”.

Study says Truvada could help prevent HIV

According to two separate studies, Truvada, the treatment manufactured by Gilead can potentially prevent HIV in individuals at higher risk of developing the infection. On the basis of data presented by both the studies, the pill appears to be working effectively. As per the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Truvada is likely to reduce the risk of HIV infection by 92%.

In the United States, the Truvada pill was approved for ‘pre-exposure prophylaxis’ (PrEP) of the AIDS – causing HIV – and can decrease the risks of the infection. The treatment is for the people who do not have the virus so far, but even then they are at substantial risk of getting it. The infection can be prevented by taking the treatment every day.

Diabetes combination drug LixiLan hits goal in second late-stage trial

On Monday, Sanofi said a second late-stage Phase III study of its LixiLan diabetes drug had met its key target. This success has made it all set for regulatory submissions by the fourth quarter in the United States and the first quarter of next year in the European Union.

LixiLan includes a single-injection combination of Lyxumia, a drug developed with Danish drugmaker Zealand Pharma, and Sanofi's Lantus. It is aimed at patients with type-2 diabetes.

In a statement, the French drugmaker said the full results will be communicated in a future scientific forum.

The French drugmaker said that the LixiLan-L Phase III clinical trial has achieved its primary endpoint in patients with type 2 diabetes, who went under treatment with insulin glargine with or without metformin.
