Antonio McDyess re-signs with Pistons

Antonio McDyess re-signs with Pistons Los Angeles - With the Detroit Pistons failing to click on all cylinders recently, help has returned in an effort to get them charged up again.

Antonio McDyess has re-signed with the Pistons for the remainder of the season, the club announced on Tuesday.

On November 3, McDyess, along with starting point guard Chauncey Billups and Cheikh Samb were dealt to the Denver Nuggets in exchange for high-scoring guard Allen Iverson.

McDyess did not play a game for the Nuggets. Instead, the 2.06- metre power forward/centre reached a buyout agreement on his contract, allowing him to re-sign with the Pistons after waiting the mandatory 30-day period. In the interim, he could have signed more lucrative offers with any other team.

Originally, McDyess was signed through the 2009-10 season, but his new pact runs out after this campaign, meaning the 34-year-old, 14- year veteran will become an unrestricted free-agent this summer.

The fan favourite McDyess, who has helped the Pistons reach the conference finals the last four years, was averaging seven points in two games this season before being traded.

Slumping Detroit could use his energy following two lackadaisical losses to the Philadelphia 76ers and New York Knicks over the weekend.

McDyess could play as early as Tuesday night, when the Pistons visit the lowly Washington Wizards. (dpa)
