NCP legislative party meeting on Tuesday
The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has convened a meeting of its Maharashtra Legislature Party on Tuesday in Mumbai.
The legislators will elect a leader following Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil's resignation in the wake of the terror strikes in the city.
Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel and senior party leader D P Tripathi will be the central observers at the meeting.
Names of Chagan Bhujbal, Jayant Patil and Delip Walse Patil are the front runners for the top post.
On the other hand Patel told reporters that it is for the Congress High Command to decide who will be the Chief Minster if they decide to replace Vilasrao Deshmukh.
"We are not against any one and our only expectation is that the leader should be decided after consulting us as it is a coalition government," he said.
His comments came in the wake of reports that the NCP was against Congress making AICC General Secretary Prithviraj Chavan as the next chief minister.
