Mumbai: With the intention to shore up its DVR offerings and intellectual property, DirecTV has bought the majority of the assets of a digital video recorder (DVR) company, ReplayTV from its existing corporate owner, Japan’s D&M Holdings, Inc.

The financial details of the acquisition deal were not disclosed yet.

This is the third time since 2002, that the company has changed hands.

Established in 1997, ReplayTV was acquired in 2001 by SONICblue before having its assets sold to D&M in 2003, after having to file for bankruptcy.

D&M said it will continue to manage subsisting subscribers, whilst DirecTV will assume ReplayTV's other assets.

DirecTV wouldn’t say what it destines to do with the ReplayTV business, but it already utilizes DVR players made by NDS Corp.

DirecTV said, “We consider this to be a significant portfolio in the area of DVRs and advanced DVR features.”
