And the winner Thursday night was … Colombian rocker Juanes, who walked away with five Latin Grammys, one from each category he was nominated in. 
  
Making a clean sweep at the Latin Grammy’s, Juane took home a grammy for, the track Me Enamora - Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Short-Form Music Video, Best Male Pop Vocal Album, and Album of the Year for La Vida ... Es un Ratico (Life Is .. But A Little Moment. 
  
Opening the show with his duet with John Legend - If You Are Out There, a song that featured in some of Obama’s campaign appearances, Juane with 17-trophies to his credit, three more than Alejandro Sanz, the previous record holder, set a new record for total Latin Grammy wins. 
  
Other winners included Argentine composer Gustavo Santaolalla, who walked away with two Latin Grammys as producer of Juanes’ Record of the Year and Album of the Year. Puerto Rican singer Kany García won an award each for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Album for Cualquier Día. Mexican alternative rockers Café Tacuba, with six nominations, took home awards for Esta Vez - Rock Song of the Year and Alternative Song of the Year for Volver a Comenzar. Julieta Venegas, Mexican singer / songwriter won two Latin Grammys for Best Long-Form Video and Best Alternative Music Album. 
  
As host of the Latin Grammies; Houston with its large Hispanic population embraced performers from Spain to Brazil, recognizing music as diverse as samba, tropical and alternative rock.
