Sunday was the lucky day for West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and Union Steel Minister Ram Vilas Pawan. They narrowly escaped a powerful explosion on their way to Kalaichandi in Paschim Medinipur district. Police raised fingers on Maoists for the explosion.

Both leaders were returning from Salboni to Kolkata. They were in the town to attend foundation laying function of a mega steel plant established by Jindal Steel.

The blast damaged the pilot gipsy and other vehicles. Some members of security staff also suffered injuries, and were later on rushed to hospitals. The State administration ordered a high-level inquiry of the incident.

Chief Minister condemned the attack and said that some miscreants do not like the development of the state. Meanwhile, state governor, Gopalkrishna Gandhi said that the state would carry on developments projects despite such senseless acts of miscreants.
