Motorola To Launch Android-Based Phone By 2009
Motorola Incorporated recently announced that they would launch their initial phone based on Google’s Android operating system by the coming year (2009).
However, the company is not doing so well at present, since it has lately been confronting several financial matters, which have arisen from both the US financial crisis and some internal organizational troubles.
The company’s quarterly report disclosed that the sales in their wireless division had descended by 31%, reaching revenue of only $3.1 billion.
The company blamed that the recent fall occurred because of various product portfolio errors in their marketing section for the 3G gadgets, mainly.
With the intention to slash their losses, Motorola is likely to cease 1,500 people from the wireless division, which is said to bring them $104 million.
In August 2008, Sanjay Jha, the new boss came to the helm of Motorola’s wireless handset business, said that he hoped to deliver the Android-based phone in time for the holiday season in 2009.
From January to September, the company has ceased 4,800 workers, while their sales decreased to $7.5 billion during the three-month period ended on September 27, 2008.
In addition, the company lost $397 million in the aforementioned quarter this year.
